"Health Words in the Word" Book Updates
Oct 2006 - Do not touch...a bird found dead.
Not to eat meat from questionable sources as in the law for priests, it is important for all of us not to do so, when transmittable mortal sicknesses are making the rounds:

The priests must not eat anything, bird or animal, found dead or torn by wild animals. from Ezekiel 44:31

So far we have found the following wordings with Bible phrases:
Do not eat...a bird found dead.
Do not eat...a bird found sick.
Do not sell...a bird found dead.
Do not sell...a bird found sick.
Do not buy...a bird found dead.
Do not buy...a bird found sick.
I do not want to eat...a bird found dead.
I do not want to eat...a bird found dead.
You must not eat .... Genesis 2:17
a bird found dead....Ezekiel 44:31
= Ne mange pas.../Tu ne mangeras pas...
= d'un oiseau crevé. - Français
You must not eat...a bird found sick.

Now it is important to add:

Do not touch...a bird found dead.
Do not touch...a bird found sick.

Do not handle...a bird found dead.
Do not hanlde...a bird found sick.

Why? It would have been good to inform the man from Baku, Azerbajan who picked up a dead bird recently without any protective gloves or other gear "in his own language" before he attempted this deed. He put himself into unnecessary danger. A fellow traveller told me he saw this himself first hand! Wanton ignorance and plain lack of knowledge can PUT MANY PEOPLE IN DANGER.

Do not handle...a bird found dead.
Do not handle...a bird found sick.

I myself found a bird this summer who had flown into a window pane and had broken its neck. Since there is no report of avian flu in our area and since the cause of death was obvious, I picked it up with plastic bags to dispose of it. However, as I closed the double bags, a blast of air from the bag hit me in the face. If this had been a dangerous situation, I would not have been careful enough to avoid danger.

Perhaps we should add a sentence like:

Do not eat...ground meat, especially with spices.

I can't think of Bible phrases to express this idea completely.

Apparently expired meat that had been stored too long was recycled into the food chain in Europe into spicy sausages! There are unscrupulous men and women at every place on earth. Be sure of your food sources. If you buy meat, prefer buying bigger pieces that show satisfactory texture, colour and smell.

Pray about good, safe food supplies for all God's creatures.
